WASECA — Construction will resume on the Highway 14 bypass in Waseca on Monday, when bridge workers begin driving pikes in the ground south of town near the Highway 13 intersection.

Two new bridges, one for eastbound and one for westbound traffic, will carry Highway 14 traffic over Highway 13 when the project is completed.

The work is part of the Highway 14 four-lane expansion project around Waseca that began in July 2008.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials urge caution near the interchange for Highways 13 and 14. Motorists should watch for equipment and workers on the road shoulders as well as workers crossing Highway 13.

“As you’re heading south of town on Highway 13, as you get in that area, they will be busy,” said Rebecca Arndt, a Public Information Officer with MnDOT.

The bridge work officially kicks off the construction season for the bypass project, as Ardt said, “bridge workers can do things in weather that road workers can’t.”

By the time the bridge work is completed later in the summer, the road projects season will be well under way.

The bridge work “can take the better part of the season,” Arndt said.

As for what other bypass projects will be completed this summer, Arndt said that MnDOT officials will meet with contractors in late April to work out a strategy and schedule.

Completion of the Highway 14 four-lane to Interstate 35 in Owatonna is expected by 2012. The construction cost of the Waseca and Steele County segments totals $108 million.

If our government keeps borrowing money from China to pay for our stuff , they will have to rename all of our new roads to something we can't even pronounce .
Who knows how many of our national assets The Chinese actually own and how many of our banks and our checking accounts do they own controlling interest in .

On the flip side , the longer the government and DOT "stretches" these projects out , the more they will ultimately cost in the end or is it our end ....
Pretty soon they will have to turn all of our highways into toll roads just to pay for them .
On second thought have you ever driven around Chicago and New York on some of those toll roads .
They are crap for roads .
Bad Idea...
