Evelyn “Tootsie” Truhlar
1919 — 2010


OWATONNA — Evelyn “Tootsie” Truhlar, 90, of Owatonna, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Owatonna Commons.
She was born Nov. 20, 1919, near Ellendale on the Enzenauer family farm in Berlin Township, the daughter of Sylvester and Luella (Enzenauer) Kedziora. She attended country school until her family moved to Owatonna. She lived in Waseca, and worked for Johnson Controls in Waseca before her marriage. She was united in marriage to Paul Truhlar on Jan. 13, 1945, at the United Methodist Church of Owatonna. They made their home in Minneapolis while Paul attended the University of MN. Paul and Evelyn then moved to Owatonna.
“Tootsie” loved children, and helped raise several others in her household while their parents worked. She also worked at Josten’s, sold Avon, and was the Owatonna Welcome Wagon Hostess for years. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing “Up North” with other Josten’s families every summer, and traveling with Paul to visit relatives.
Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church of Owatonna, the Elks ladies, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by son, Douglas (and Anne (Wise)) Truhlar of Costa Rica; daughter, Darlene Polesky of Owatonna; sister, Doris (and Norman) Goertz of Circle Pines; brother-in-law, Robert “Smokey” (and Lee) Truhlar of Bloomington; grandchildren, Ryan (and Deb) Vogt of Ramsey; Maryann (and Kevin) Eastburn of Owatonna; Michelle (and Troy) Grems of Owatonna; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and special niece Sarah Blaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1984; her parents; brother, William “Bob” Kedziora; sister, Donna (Borchert) Blaha; and nephew David Blaha.
Visitation will be at United Methodist Church on Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held Jan. 25, 2010, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens. Memorials are preferred to VFW Auxiliary or United Methodist Church of Owatonna. She will be in our hearts forever.
