Jeff graduated from Mankato Loyola High School in 1975. He then completed his undergraduate degree at Mankato State University. Jeff earned both his master’s degree in music and his doctorate degree in musical arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jeff was a renowned tubist, perfecting a gamut of musical genres (from jazz and big band to classical and pop) and ensembles (from brass choirs and marching bands to symphony orchestras and jazz quartets). Through his long career, Jeff taught at a number of institutions of higher learning, most recently serving as associate professor of low brass and music theory at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan. There he combined his great love for music and teaching with composing, transcribing and performance.
Prior to his teaching career, Jeff served three years active duty with the U.S. Army and retired as staff sergeant after 19 years with the U.S. Army Reserve. His passion for music, faith and patriotism was matched only by his love for his beloved wife, and family.
