Marilyn J. Brown
1935 — 2009

ROCHESTER — Marilyn J. Brown, 74, of Owatonna passed away at Methodist Hospital in Rochester on Friday, Nov. 27 from ovarian cancer. She was born in Lincoln, Neb. on March 14, 1935, the daughter of Peter J. and Margaret A. (Leichner) Folmer. In 1955 she graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Marilyn worked as a surgical nurse at Lincoln General Hospital for one year.
On Sept. 2, 1956, she was united in marriage at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Neb. to Ross K. Brown, a native of Pawnee City, Neb. They started their married life in Waterloo, IA. During the early years of their marriage Marilyn worked as an obstetrics nurse at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. After the birth of their two sons, she became a homemaker while participating in volunteer activities such as free community blood pressure and inoculation clinics and church activities. From 1959 to 1990 the family resided in the Cedar Heights area of Cedar Falls, IA. 
In 1990, the couple moved to Owatonna where her activities included the hospital auxiliary, the Owatonna Women’s Club, SeniorPlace, golf, and marathon and Elks bridge.
Her parents are deceased.  She is survived by her husband, two sons; Michael (Lynn) Brown of Waverly, IA, and Craig (Julie) Brown of Sherwood, Ark., three grandchildren; Scot, Christopher and Sara Brown, and her brother, Thomas Folmer of Lincoln, Neb.
A visitation will be at the Associated Church in Owatonna on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1 to 2 p.m. A memorial service will follow, at 2 p.m. at the Associated Church with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating.  Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Neb. on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Associated Church, SeniorPlace, or the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
