Compost site closes, curbside recycling altered
Email Print
OWATONNA —- The Owatonna Compost Site will close for the fall season after Nov. 25.
Through next Wednesday, hours at the compost site are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Reach the site by driving west on Bridge Street until it ends at 32nd Avenue, then turn right and look for the compost site next to the railroad tracks. The Owatonna Compost Site will reopen in 2010 during the first two weekends of January to accept Christmas greenery as well as yard waste.
Due to the Thanksgiving Day Holiday, curbside recycling in Owatonna will occur one day late for neighborhoods in the city that are usually recycled on route “A” or pink Thursdays or Fridays. Set out recycling bins by 7 a.m. to ensure pick up. Curbside recycling will not change for other neighborhoods in Owatonna or for residents in Blooming Prairie, Ellendale or Medford.
The Steele County/Waste Management Recycling Center in Owatonna and the Steele County Landfill near Bixby will both be closed on Thanksgiving. Both will reopen Nov. 27 with normal operating hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the recycling center and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the landfill.
For more information on recycling, composting or other solid waste disposal, call the Steele County Recycling Hotline at 451-5443.
