LAREDO, TEXAS — A Medford man was allegedly found trying to cross the Mexican border with an arsenal of weapons.

Paul Giovanni de la Rosa, 36, was driving a minivan Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents stopped at the Laredo, Texas port of entry on Monday.

He was headed toward Mexico in 2000 Chrysler Town and County mini-van when agents were sent to do a secondary inspection. Agents had been alerted to possible contraband in the truck.

According to KGNS News, a television station in Laredo, de la Rosa was arrested and turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after CBP agents found the weapons hidden in a sofa inside the van.

A canine initially led agents to the sofa where a non-intrusive scan found irregular contents, according to published reports.

In total, 26 magazines and 200 rounds of ammunition were found in the furniture along with 14 hidden guns, which included four 5.7x28 mm handguns, one Berretta handgun, one Sig Sauer handgun, three Ruger LCP handguns, four FN Herstal PS90 Carbines, and one AR-15 with a scope.

CBP will detain you for one single bullet found. What was this guy thinking?

I think this man was probably just very concerned about gun violence in the US and was doing his part to rid our country of the violent and evil weapons. ;)

This story generates a few questions and most of them have some humorous undertones. This man obviously is a few rounds short of a full clip himself. So now citizens are being inspected leaving the country? I can understand the Mexican authorities stopping someone entering their country with contraban but.... Apparently we are doing their job for them. Is the US being reimbursed? The other sad yet funny part is we can manage to find a US citizen with a van ful of guns leaving the country but not manage to stop the flow of people, drugs and drug money coming into the USA. I think a memo to the CBP and ICE is in order.

Dear agents: About face.

"A canine initially led agents to the sofa where a non-intrusive scan found irregular contents, according to published reports."
Probably a case of illegal search and seizure. I mean, it's not like the guns would have been in plain sight. I am certain he would have enough sense to cover them up with all that ammunition and extra clips while they were on top of the sofa...

Medford man, I was expecting to see Nelson, Smith, Johnson, no offense to anyone with those names, just making a point.

Paul Giovanni de la Rosa, sounds a little hispanic to me.

Is it just me that when you look at most of the names in the police reports it seems to me that they are people who are from other parts of the world who came here to make a better life for themselves but seem to be causing most of the problems.

This is not a racial or an ethnic issue to me it's just that if immigrants or transplants from other cities can't stay out of trouble then send then back where they came from we don't need the hassle.

He is not a "Medford" man, he's from somewhere else and is now living in Medford only to drag the name through the mud.

If you are not going to be a decent productive member of society, leave, just leave the country so the rest of us can live peacefully.

I am so sick of this @#%$%

awful_sick: Are you a racist? De la Rosa is a U.S. citizen. He born in the USA. So, your point is wrong. You sounds like a racist, white supremacist, nazi and all that bull%$@.
I am so sick of people like you...

Atlas--very good and funny comments! LOL!

awful_sick-- Maybe you're so close-minded to think that, not only is he here LEGALLY (god forbid, right!)but that people who are closer to poverty level not only are more prone to obesity from poor diet and lack of education about nutrition but also more prone to crime because of various circumstances.
If I had to smuggle guns to mexico to make such my children could eat, damn right I'd do it. The fact that he could be hispanic has NOTHING to do with the fact that he committed a crime.
