OWATONNA — The Owatonna Exchange Club will host the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Owatonna Eagles Club. Full buffet breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. Program begins at 8 a.m. and will be concluded by 9 a.m. Bob Bardwell, Camp Director of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch in Stewartville, will be the featured speaker. Ticket costs are $10 per person. Tickets will be available at Kottke Jewelers, Hy-Vee, Owatonna Chamber of Commerce or from any Owatonna Exchange Club member.
The mission of the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is “to bring together people of our community for a time of fellowship and renewal, a time of thanksgiving and prayer, a time to reflect on the blessings of our common heritage, a time to strengthen the bonds of our common faith, a time to seek divine inspiration and guidance for our common endeavors and the challenges we face together as a community of caring women and men.”
Bardwell was injured in a heavy construction accident in 1973 which left him paralyzed from the waist down. He has taken the “attitude of gratitude” and has become a national motivational speaker over the past 18 years. His two legs have been replaced by 65 wheels which makes Bob the perfect fit for the saying, “where there is a wheel, there is a way”. In 1976 Bob Bardwell founded the Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, Inc., a non-profit youth ranch serving over 20,000 people each year. He established the Castner Riding Arena and Equestrian Center at Ironwood, founder and host of the National Wheelchair Sports and Recreation Camp, which over 1000 campers have attended. Bob has completed 100 marathons in his wheelchair, raced in over 200 races pushing his wheelchair over 10,000 miles. His audiences include schools, businesses, corporations, churches, conventions, workshops, banquets, colleges and prisons. His presentations promote courage, perseverance and hope.
