OWATONNA — From the set of the Jimmy Fallon show to his parents’ backyard in Owatonna, Sean Tillmann has been in a lot of places over the past two weeks.

But tonight, Tillmann will be nowhere to be seen, as Har Mar Superstar — his hypersexual alter ego — takes the stage at the Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis. The appearance will serve as his official release show for “Dark Touches,” the newest album in the Har Mar lineup.

Har Mar Superstar was born ten years ago, when Tillmann was living in Minneapolis, playing guitar-based indie rock. Tillmann said the Har Mar persona was “a reaction to boring indie rock and how people were taking themselves way too seriously.”

It was one of many alter egos Tillmann would discover through the years, but as he found new songs to include in his new album, he also found new sides of his own personality. The songs build on his humor, and take his work to a new level, incorporating his self-deprecating and potty-mouthed sides as well.

“Tall Boys has definitely been the runaway hit of the album,” said Tillmann.

The album has only been on the shelves for a few weeks, but already Tillmann is a month into a North American tour. He will hit Fargo, Omaha, and Kansas City to perform before heading back to Los Angeles. But after a short break, he’ll be right back on tour.

“We’re touring the U.K. right after Thanksgiving,” said Tillmann.

But the concert stage is not the only place Tillmann has been performing. Over the last year, Tillmann also added acting roles in “Whip It!” and “Lovely Still” to his repertoire. He has also landed a show on HBO, which he is co-writing.

Called “Stitch N’ Bitch,” Tillmann said it is too early to release any details about the show. But he estimates he will pick up his work on the show around Christmas time. For right now, Tillmann is focused on performing.

“I’m just traveling and playing live for everybody as much as possible,” said Tillmann.

And with the sultry antics he is known for on the stage, Tillmann continues to draw a crowd.

“The Har Mar show is just a really big fun wild party,” said Tillmann.

Har Mar Superstar will perform at the Varsity Theatre tonight, with Lookbook, Bang Bang Eche and Koo Koo Kangaroo. The show will open at 8 p.m. and as of press time, tickets were still available.
