Jean Fetrow
1916 — 2009

OWATONNA — Jean Fetrow, 93, of Owatonna, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Clare Bridge of Owatonna.
Jean was born in Toledo, lowa, May 31, 1916, to Robert and Nell Wilson. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and started her elementary teaching career in Montour, Iowa. There she met her husband, Herb Fetrow, who was also teaching and coaching. They were married in 1941. They changed careers and owned several businesses in Toledo, lowa, and then decided to return to teaching. They and their two daughters, Kay and Barb, moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa in 1957 where Herb and Jean taught until their retirement in 1977. Jean loved being a third grade teacher and they enjoyed being a part of the community for 20 years. They moved to Belen, N.M., where they enjoyed retirement playing golf and traveling. Jean loved to knit and she made thousands of caps for kids in the Head Start Program in New Mexico and other schools where she had friends that taught. In 2006, they made their home in Owatonna at The Brooks Assisted Living.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Wilson; her sister, Harriette Jackson Bergstedt; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Peach.
She is survived and sadly missed by her husband, Herb; daughters, Barb Peach of Owatonna, Kay Recker (Dennis) of Madison, Miss.; grandson Anthony Empting of Mililani, Hawaii; and granddaughter Cassandra Ringhofer (Jason) of Owatonna; and five great-grandchildren, Kirra and Emma Empting and Logan, Dawson, and Alexis Ringhofer.
Jean asked that her body be donated to the Mayo Clinic for clinical studies and no services are planned. Memorials are preferred to the North Iowa Scholarship Fund c/o Brad Huntington, 111 3rd Ave. NW Buffalo Center, IA 50424.
