OWATONNA — Pat Trotman and Jenna Paulson are the new Homecoming King and Queen at Blooming Prairie High School.
Though the two were excited, they kept their acceptance speeches short and sweet out of respect for an ongoing football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.
It was the third time a Trotman had taken the Homecoming King’s crown, said Pat Trotman’s mother, Amy Trotman.
“I’m happy and very proud,” Amy Trotman said. “He’s my last child and the third king in the family, I don’t know how I’ll ever live it down. They’ll all be walking around the house all puffed up — the three kings, you know.” Pat is on the football team, and also sings in the choir. After graduation, he plans to attend Riverland Community College for two years before transferring to a four-year school, where he intends to study English literature.
It was the first family crowning for Janice Pederson, Jenna Paulson’s mother.
“It was amazing and surprising,” Pederson said. “(Jenna) likes all the kids in her class. It’s a great grade.”
Paulson is active in cross country, theater and track among other activities. After graduation, Paulson said she will to complete her associate’s degree at Riverland. She then hopes to begin a career as a wind turbine electrician.
It was a bittersweet night for teacher Kari Bottin, who has been with this class since they were in seventh grade. Bottin said she had worked closely with both Paulson and Trotman during school theater productions. “In the last few years, they’ve really come out of their shells,” Bottin said.
The other candidates for queen were Jordan Noble, Erin Johnson, Ashley Campbell and Kelcie Driessen. The candidates for king were Aaron Krejci, Justen Ingvalson, Aaron Niles and Jeff Hagstrom.
“I think it must have been a close race,” Bottin said. “They’re all great kids.”
Trotman and Paulson will lead their class of 57 students during the Homecoming Parade on Friday. The parade begins at 4:15 p.m., with the game following at 7 p.m. The Blossoms will take on the Cardinals from Faribault Bethlehem Academy.
