OWATONNA — Fashion trends may be fleeting, but for the women of Countryside, it’s an ageless passion.

Countryside Senior Living staff, together with the new BonWorth clothing store, held a fashion show Tuesday afternoon. The new BonWorth outlet opened recently at the Medford Outlet Mall.

Jennifer Redman, executive director of Countryside Senior Living, said for many of the women, fashion and dressing their best has always been a fun priority, and it hasn’t changed.

“I always say, ‘As you grow older, you don’t really change,. You just become more like yourself,’” Redman said.

Redman said she thought the fashion show was a great partnership between the new shop and residents, as, like Countryside, BonWorth caters to clients 50-years-old and above.

Countryside residents Dee Ebeling, Elda Bigelow, Shirley Kubat and Billie Vargason took time out to model fashions provided by BonWorth as audience members remarked on the fun fashion.

Kubat said she’s always been interested in fashion and it was fun to model the clothes, although she was a little nervous.

“My kids like to buy me clothes but I tell them to just give me the money and let me go shopping. I think a woman likes to buy her own clothes.”

The “First Ever Fashion” show at Countryside was the result of some brainstorming by activities coordinator Brenda Haugen, who wanted to bring a fun but unique activity to the center. Haugen said bringing the show to Countryside and including residents as models made it just a bit more special for everyone.

“It makes it more us,” she said.

The women modeled active wear, leisure and night-time looks. BonWorth manager, Lisa Johnson, said that all of the ensembles shown Tuesday were $50 or less.

“It’s just a few of the outfits (we have),” Johnson said. “I could have brought many more.”

Vargason said she has been a BonWorth customer for quite some time and was happy to don the outfits Tuesday afternoon.

“I’ve used them for  years,” Vargason said of the clothing. “Very high quality.”
