Rehearsals for ‘South Pacific’ to begin in July

FARIBAULT — The highly successful musical “South Pacific,” a story about our service men and women in World War II, will be presented in the Bahl Family Auditorium of the Paradise Center for the Arts next month, July 9-12.
The cast, composed of 32 actors from Faribault, Owatonna, Northfield, Kenyon, Waseca, Medford, Morristown and Waterville, has been chosen and began rehearsals under the direction of Eric E. Parrish.
“We’re happy and grateful that our local Paradise Community Theatre has reached out to so many communities for involvement in this show,” co-producer Diane Cloeter comments.
The play, written and adapted by Rodgers and Hammerstein from James Michener’s book, “Tales of the South Pacific,” describes the wartime events in the lives of Emile de Becque played by Larry Lodemeier, Ensign Nellie Forbush by Bryanna Hanson, Bloody Mary by Shelley Whitehead, Liat by Benja Gladden, Luther Billis by Palmer Huff, Lt. Cable by Tyler Schwichtenberg, Ngana by Maya Schneider and Jacquilin by Anna Cook. Other Navy personnel, nurses and islanders are played by Emily Batchelder, Richard Brown, Jordyn Caudle, William Cody, Ethan Hanson, Nolan Hanson, Tim Hirschberger, Paula Jameson, Jacob Jirele, Kathleen Kanne, Kevin Kline, Emma Langemo, Sarah Langeslag, Chuck Larsen, Marla Markman, Alissa McDonough, Elly Miller, Jake Miller, Isaiah Reuvers, Tami Schluter, Jake Searl, Lisa Simonson and April Spring.
The performances on July 9, 10 and 11 will be given at 7:30 p.m. each evening. However, two matinee performances will be given on July 11 and 12, both beginning at 2 p.m. The performance on July 9 will be American Sign language interpreted.
Parrish will be assisted by Lois Vranesh, vocal director; Kris Raaen, orchestra director; Charles Godwin, accompanist; Lucy Sweitzer, choreographer; and Kathy Rush, costumer.
Assigned seating tickets will be available at the Faribault Daily News Box Office located in the lobby of the Paradise Center for the Arts beginning June 15.
