OWATONNA — Lucille Ambler, 85, a long-time resident of Owatonna, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603  Austin Road in Owatonna, with Major Marlys Anderson, Salvation Army chaplin presiding.  Friends may visit the family one hour before the time of services at the funeral home on Thursday.  Interment will follow at Owatonna Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered by the Steele County Funeral Unit.
Gertrude Lucille McKelvey was born on Christmas Eve in 1923 in Ashland, Mont., the daughter of Samuel and Harriett (Parks) McKelvey.  Lucille graduated from high school in 1941 in Rosebed, Mont., and attended college in Helena, Mont.
Lucille enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and worked in the hospital administration processing the solders being discharged. She served our country honorably for three years.
Lucille was united in marriage to Harry Ambler in 1946 in Billings, Mont. The couple moved to Medford after their marriage.  Lucille worked for Dr. Shock as an office manager and then for a short while at Josten’s. Later, Lucille went to work at the Medford School as a secretary and bookkeeper.
Lucille retired in 1985  following 23 years of service for the  Medford School. During her retirement, Lucille undertook several remodeling projects at her home. Her life interests included playing in her monthly card club, the Owls Club, gardening, wood work, reading and crafts.
Lucille is survived by her daughters Marsha Ambler of Rochester and Pamela (Michael) Marich of Roseville, Calif.; five grandchildren, Tanya Drenth, Cheryl Drenth, Lindsey Rowe, Kendal Rowe, and Sterling Marich; and three great-grandchildren; one brother Glen McKelvey, Mont.; and one sister Clara Hill of Oregon.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband in 1964 and her daughter, Gail Drenth, in January 2009.
