Glad to see they cut this program that encourages teamwork and exercise. Hopefully this will help the city not have to cut salaries any.

I always assumed the sports programs and costs were run through the school. Not that they would have survived budget cuts there either. But the programs aren't necessarily disappering, the cost is just being shifted.

This is not true, these programs were cut years ago and only ran because of park and recs contribution. There are a lot of things that the public is naive about with the school system and what they do and do not do for the community. I suggest you attend a school board meeting so you can become educated in the system.

That's not really true either. Kids fist was funded by the school, park and rec and community Ed, as the article stated.
A lot of the cost for high school sports is now paid for by it's respective association, Hoops Club, Bullpen Club, etc, although the school pays some of the bills. Lacrosse is paid for entirely by it's association.
We need Kids First. Those kids need something to do. What's bothersome is the fees might get so high only the upper middle class might be able to afford them. I think Lakeville is having that problem. Then we're loosing kids and they find something else to do which isn't always a good thing.
It would be nice if the associations could donate some towards Kids First. This is a feeder program to the high school, it would be in their best interest to keep as many kids playing as possible.
