NEW ULM — Mary Ann Schwab, 77, of New Ulm died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Christian Mother’s Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lora and Bruce Rozeske, Lisa and Terry Kuck all of Owatonna; sons, Steven Schwab of Albert Lea, David Schwab of Germany, Thomas Schwab of Gibbon; grandchildren, Emily and Christina Rozeske, Gracie, Eric, Katie, Stephanie and Christopher Schwab; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian Kamm, Lydia and Henry Leisenfeld, Liz Dittrich all of New Ulm, Dorothy and Jim Block of Florida; brother and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Tauer of New Ulm, Sandy Tauer of St. James; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Esther Schwab of St. George; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leander “Ace” Schwab on May 25, 1999; brother, Kenneth Tauer; sisters-in-law, Rose Schwab, Delores Schwab; brothers-in-law, Leo Dittrich, Jerome Schwab, Ray Schwab, and Marvin Kamm.
Mary Ann Tauer was born on Sept. 26, 1932 in New Ulm to Herbert and Oleta (Dauer) Tauer. On Oct. 18, 1955 she was united in marriage to Leander Schwab at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in rural St. George for thirty five years until retiring but continued to live on the farm until 1994 when they moved to New Ulm. Mary Ann worked for nine years as a nursing assistant at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm and then for fifteen years as a certified nursing assistant at the Oak Hill Living Center in New Ulm. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, sewing, doing things for others, spending time with family and friends, and being the head cook for various funeral lunches at the Cathedral. Mary Ann was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the Christian Mother’s Society, Oak Hills Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Turner Ladies and had been a 4-H leader. A special thank you to Liz Dittrich for her care and kindness shown to our mother during her courageous four year battle with cancer.
